A History of Excellence

Dr. Herbert J. Bell began his Optometric practice in 1935 in downtown Trenton after graduating from the Southern California College of Optometry. In order to serve the growing community in both Trenton and Ewing, he moved his practice to the present location in Ewing in 1965. Dr. Herbert J. Bell provided professional eye care and developed a special personal rapport with his patients for almost 60 years.

Even after retiring due to health concerns in his late 70s, Dr. Bell continued to be present for the practice and would keep up with the progress and growth of the practice. He served his community with dedication and commitment and was so proud to see the loyalty and connection that developed with patients and their families over his long career. Dr. Herbert J. Bell passed away in March 2004, one week away from the age of 93 and will be fondly remembered by his family, patients, colleagues, and friends alike.

His daughter, Dr. Susan A. Bell, achieved her professional degree in Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She continued her education and became board certified in the management and treatment of ocular disease. Both Dr. Herbert and Dr. Susan attended continuing education courses in order to keep abreast of ever-changing technology in diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions.

Dr. Susan Bell has served on the NJ State Board of Optometry and on multiple boards of nonprofits and municipal departments. Her commitment and compassion for her community continues the tradition of service that Dr. Herbert J. Bell started with the practice and continued through his life. Dr. Susan Bell is thankful to have had the opportunity to work side-by-side with her dad for many years and sincerely thanks all of their valued patients for their loyalty, continued patronage, and friendship.
